For our reuse projects, donated modules must maintain at least 80% of their official rated efficiency and be tested to ensure they are in good working order. When decommissioning a solar project, the project/property owner (or solar contractor) must verify that used solar panels destined for removal are still viable and fit for reuse, or confirm if they are not, meaning they are not producing power or are damaged beyond repair, and should be sent to an end-of-life recycler, dismantler, or landfill. Note that we cannot accept modules that are unfit for reuse. Please contact a solar recycler like Recycle PV Solar or We Recycle Solar in such cases. Responsibility may fall on the decommissioning contractor if agreed upon with the system owner. These requirements apply only to solar modules and not to solar equipment such as inverters and racking.
We'll need the quantity and exact make and model of any donated equipment so we can plan for pickup and transport. Please have this information ready beforehand.
For modules needing pickup at your location, please supply a pickup address and an estimated timeframe. We'll coordinate with you or your team to confirm the pickup date and time. For donations delivered to our facility, contact us to arrange delivery.
Once you have the necessary information, email it to info@kindsun.org or use the contact form below. We will coordinate the donation if we can accept the equipment. After receiving the equipment, the Kind Sun Initiative will issue a donation receipt for tax verification for you or your client.
